Parker and Zoe were born on January 16, 2014. They were Mono-Mono twins. That basically means that they shared both an amniotic sac and a placenta, and it made for a super high risk pregnancy. When they were born at 33 1/2 weeks, they were immediately whisked away from Mom and each other to separate hospitals. Parker spent roughly 8 weeks in the NICU at the hopital where she was born. Zoe had a severe heart defect, called Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA). This meant she needed to be transferred to a separate hospital that had a Cardiac ICU. She only got to see her mother for a brief moment before she was taken away. She was intubated immediately after birth, and fought through 2 surgeries to repair her heart and her lungs. She was riddled with tubes and wires and monitors and breathing machines. She has survived more in her first 3 months than most do in a lifetime. They are now almost 6 months old. They are both home with us, and we're having a blast! Seeing them interact with us and each other is truly a gift we didn't know we'd get. This is where I will try to tell their story, from the beginning to the years ahead.
